Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) surveillance encompasses the ongoing, systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial use to assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of AMR interventions nationally. V-Tech offers a surveillance programme that is unique to South Africa – The V-Tech Actif Plan. This surveillance is done throughout the year to build a history for the intensive animal production unit
The V-Tech Actif Plan was developed specifically for the poultry industry in South Africa, to South African conditions, to address the concerns of the rising level of resistance to antibiotics developing in the E.coli population relevant to the industry.

The V-Tech Actif Plan allows for Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) determination and ensures the right antibiotic at the correct dose for the specific farm. This is now carried through to feedlots and piggeries.

V-Tech believes that every person and entity involved in the production of animal protein for human consumption carries the responsibility to ensure a safe product and has developed a full-service package to offer veterinarians, farmers and integrated groups access to comprehensive surveillance.
